KCK Attorney Skip Cornbrooks Presents at 2025 MML Summer Conference

Skip Cornbrooks represented KCK at the Maryland Municipal League’s Summer Conference in June, 2025, and presented to attendees regarding the structure of government for the various forms of municipalities in the State of Maryland. The Structure of Government focuses on the legal theory establishing municipal government, the various structures of municipal government in Maryland and how the structures have evolved since their inception. The Structure of Government is one of MML’s core course requirements for local government officials to become a fellow of the Academy of Excellence in Local Government.

MML’s Summer Conference brings together municipal officials from across the State of Maryland and its 157 municipalities. The Summer Conference is held annually in Ocean City, Maryland.

KCK Managing Partner Speaks at the Maryland Municipal League’s Annual Summer Conference

Managing partner Kevin Karpinski represented Karpinski, Cornbrooks & Karp, P.A. at the (“MML”) conference in Ocean City, Maryland. MML advocates for Maryland’s one hundred fifty-seven (157) incorporated cities and towns and four (4) special taxing districts.

Kevin is a Certified Instructor for the Academy for Excellence in Local Governance. At MML, Kevin spoke to attendees on practices to avoid employment discrimination claims as well as provided a legal update regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII, Sexual Harassment and other recent employment-related cases impacting employers in Maryland.

KCK Attorney Jack Karpinski Appointed to the Maryland State Bar Association Board of Governors

Last month, Jack Karpinski was appointed to the Board of Governors for the Maryland State Bar Association (“MSBA”) to serve as the Litigation Law Section Representative.

The MSBA represents more than 20,000 attorneys and is the state’s leading voice for the law community. Its mission is to “effectively represent Maryland’s lawyers, to provide member services, and to promote professionalism, diversity in legal profession, access to justice, service to the public and respect for the rule of law.” The Board of Governors, among other groups, is tasked with making strategic decisions that guide the MSBA towards achieving its mission.

Kevin is a seasoned trial attorney with years of experience handling complex and sensitive matters in state and federal trial and appellate courts. While he specializes in civil rights and employment litigation, his practice includes general civil litigation, election law, and local government law.

Kevin was inducted at the spring meeting of the American College Trial Lawyers. Founded in 1950, the College limits admission to no more than one percent of the trial lawyers in any state and is the pre-eminent professional organization for trial attorneys.

Managing Partner Kevin Karpinski & Associate Jack Karpinski represented KCK at the annual MSBA Legal Summit, which took place from June 4-6 in Ocean City, Maryland. For more than 30 years, the Legal Summit has been the MSBA’s premiere event with over 75 seminars and 1,000 attendees.

Kevin was a panelist on “Election Law Issues in the age of ‘Stop the Steal’”. The panelists discussed the evolution of elections in Maryland and the challenges at the State and local levels in successfully implementing elections. The panelist also discussed how counsel for candidates and campaigns work in a collaborative manner with the State Board of Elections and local boards to identify potential issues during the election cycle in order enhance Marylander’s voting experience. The program was moderated by Bruce Marcus, Esq. Kevin was honored to present with Jared DeMarinis, Esq. and Amanda Laforge, Esq.

Jack Karpinski was a panelist for the “Are You Smarter Than a Law Clerk” program. The interactive presentation—which is based on the television show “Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader”—tests attendees’ knowledge of recent appellate cases decided by the Appellate Court of Maryland and the Supreme Court of Maryland through entertaining hypothetical questions. The program is emceed by Judge Lynne Battaglia and Jack was honored to present alongside Judge Andrea Leahy, Jim Archibald, Esq., and Harry Johnson, Esq.
